This Shanghai speakeasy was named in World's 50 Best Bars 2016
Fresh and hot off the presses: the annual list of the world's best bars has dropped.
Last night in London, The World's 50 Best Bars Awards 2016 were announced. And for the first time, a mainland China bar has been honoured, with Shanghai speakeasy Speak Low placing 15th on the globally recognised list.
In total this year, seven bars in Asia made the cut in the awards – which are chosen by a panel of over 400 industry experts and produced by Drinks International – with Singapore (Manhattan, 28 Hongkong Street, Operation Dagger), Hong Kong (Lobster Bar, Quinary) and Tokyo (High Five) noted in addition to Shanghai. This is a step up from the region's five entries in the 2015 list. As ever, London and New York dominated the list this year, with NYC's The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog taking the number one spot.
Last year, Speak Low was recognised as a 'bar to watch' in the World's Best Bars Awards 2015. And in the spring, the Fuxing Zhong Lu hideaway came in at number two on the inaugural Asia's 50 Best Bars list, trailing Singapore's 28 Hongkong Street.
Watch out London and New York, we're coming for ya.
